History of Culliton Brothers Limited

From the beginning...

1932  
R.T. (Bob) McBride and one partner go into the plumbing and sheet metal business working out of Bob’s mother’s garage at 40 Trinity Street, Stratford, ON.
1946
R.T. McBride moves to 168 Ontario Street. At the new location retail store, a bookkeeping facility and shop. There were 6 - 8 full-time employees.
1947
Keith A. Culliton joins the company as the bookkeeper.
1951
George F. Culliton joins the company as a plumbing apprentice.
1953
R.T. McBride incorporates, becoming R.T. McBride Limited.
1960
David F. Teahen joins the company as the bookkeeper.
1964
R.T. McBride passes away. George and Keith Culliton buy the
company from Mrs. McBride.
1968
The company adds an electrical department and an electric motor repair and rewind shop. These departments were located in a rental garage on Ontario Street in the east end of Stratford.
1969
The Company moves to a new facility at 473 Douro Street.
1975
Name changes from R.T. McBride Limited to Culliton Brothers Limited. Sponsorship of the Jr. B. hockey team, the “Stratford Cullitons” begins.
1978
David F. Teahen becomes a shareholder.
1981
Addition of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration service department. Purchased Allen Somers Plumbing in St. Marys.
1988
A 5,000 square foot addition to the existing building. Interior construc tion changes for new office space increased plumbing market area and increased shop area.
1989
Steve Culliton (George’s son) joins the company.
1991
Tim Culliton (Keith’s son) joins the company.
1994
Founded Cullitons Security Limited, a separate company to serve the residential, commercial and industrial sectors with burglar, fire and medial alarms.
1997
George F. Culliton passes away. His wife, Barbara M. Culliton, is appointed President of Culliton Brothers.
1998
Steve Culliton appointed Sales Manager, Tim Culliton appointed General Manager and a Management Team was developed to assist in the operation of Culliton Brothers Limited.
2000
Company reporting/organizational structure changes to business units - construction, service & installations and residential.
2001
Awarded Grand River Hospital - $15 Million Mechanical/Electrical project, company’s largest to date.
2003
Tim Culliton purchases Steve Culliton’s shares in the business.
Tim Culliton becomes sole shareholder and President.
2004
Awarded St. Mary’s General Hospital - $9.8 Million, largest single electrical contract to date.
2005
Awarded Sherbourne Health Centre - $4 Million, first significant Toronto project.
2006
Sell Culliton Security Limited to Protectron. Re-organization of business operations. Awarded projects at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) - $4.9 Million and Toronto General Hospital - $2.4 Million – additional significant Toronto Hospital Projects.
2007
Awarded Bluewater Health Redevelopment Project - $55 Million – largest single contract to date.
2008
Completed the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health (CAMH) and Toronto General Hospital – 2 major mechanical projects in the Toronto market.
2008
Opened Culliton Self Storage.
2009
Ongoing projects in Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Sarnia and all points in between.
